PARK HILLS, Mo. – A Park Hills man faces charged after police say he posed as an exterminator to gain entry into apartments to steal medication.

Justin Burns, 26, was charged with four counts of theft of a controlled substance.

According to police, Burns entered at least six different apartments after telling residents he worked for A-1 Pest Control, later turned out to be fake.

“He would have them be distracted somehow and tell them to go do something like turn on the water and I guess at that time he would take their prescribed medicine,” said Det. Todd Inserra with the Park Hills Police Department.

One of the victims, Claudia Ball, says she was instructed to turn the water on in the other room while Burns was in the kitchen.

“I decided to come out here and I caught him in the cabinets,” said Ball. “When I caught him, he said he was looking for bugs, and I don’t have any bugs.”

It wasn’t until the next day she noticed some of her medication missing.

Burns was arrested late last week. Police say there could also be more victims.

“It’s hard to say what other places he’s hit, if anybody recognizes this guy, I suggest that they call their local authorities and file a report with them,” said Inserra.

Burns is in custody on $60,000 bond, and online court records show he requested a public defender Tuesday.
