HOUSTON—A father beat and bit his 3-month-old daughter because he became frustrated while watching her, according to Houston police.

Christopher Trejo was charged with felony injury to a child.

The child’s mother said she went to bed around 10 p.m. on June 5 while Trejo watched the baby, but when she woke up the next morning to fix her daughter a bottle, she noticed bruises on her cheek and forehead.

When she asked Trejo what happened, he told her “he was frustrated and bit her on the face, but that was it,” according to court documents.

The baby’s aunt also saw the bruises on the face and noticed her niece would cry every time they attempted to move her. She also she confronted Trejo, who said the baby fell out of her bouncy chair. The aunt immediately called 911, but Trejo fled the scene before EMS and police arrived.

Doctors at Texas Children’s Hospital found the baby suffering from serious bodily injury, including bilateral skull fractures, right subdural hematoma, healing rib fractures and right facial bruising. These injuries, doctors concluded, were most likely caused by non-accidental blunt force trauma.

Formal charges were filed against Trejo on August 1 and no bond was given.
