ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- Police are investigating four "smash-and-grab" burglaries that happened in the same area of south St. Louis late Thursday night.

The robberies happened at a Jiffy Lube and Subway shop in Bevo Mill, a Chinese restaurant on the Hill and a Mexican restaurant in Tower Grove South.

Authorities say surveillance footage from the Subway robbery is their strongest piece of evidence.

"We can tell that the person broke the window and went right to the cash register, and was able to open the register and get the cash," said Capt. William Swiderski.

The break-in at El Toro Mexican restaurant was reportedly similar, with a suspect breaking the glass to gain entry to the building.

According to police, the four break-ins do not appear to be random.

"Due to the time and proximity to each other, I would suspect that they're probably related," Capt. Swiderski said. "We'll have to do an investigation to find that out."

If the crimes are related, police say they hope surveillance video from the Subway robbery will help them solve the cases.
