(KMOV.com) - Police said a 73-year old man was attacked Saturday after he parked his car near Union Station to attend “National Train Day”.

According to the police, the man parked his car on the curb in the 200 block of S. 20th St., when he exited his vehicle he was immediately attacked by an unknown suspect. Police said the suspect threw the elderly man to the ground and got on top of him, reaching into his pockets for his wallet and keys.

The suspect then allegedly used the keys to try and start the man’s car, but failed. Police said the suspect fled the scene, no one around could stop him.

“That is surprising, but sometimes when people are around a lot of people they let their guard down,” said Katie Nolan, who’s visiting St. Louis.

A man from a nearby restaurant said he and someone else tried to track down the suspect but couldn’t as he ran south on 18th street. Police said the victim was not badly hurt. Police said the investigation is still active.

Anyone with information should call the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.
