(KMOV) -- A man was charged with murder after he allegedly beat his girlfriend to death with a baseball bat at a home in north St. Louis.
Rosevelt Scott, 71, was charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to a release on Friday.
Officers were called to the 4400 block of Margaretta around 6:15 p.m. Thursday. Authorities say the suspect was arguing with his girlfriend, 54-year-old Carolyn Richardson, then struck her in the head several times with the bat.
Richardson was pronounced dead at a hospital.
"Miss Richardson was a blessed, kind woman and we're just devastated this man has done this to her," said Crystal Simms, a friend of the victim. "There was no cause for this to happen this way. This is just a tragic loss."
A police investigation into the murder is ongoing.
