(KMOV.com) – Police are investigating sexual assault allegations at an area school, but parents still have not been notified.

Wednesday, a 16-year-old student said she was sexually assaulted by an 18-year-old male student at Hazelwood Central High School.

The school district said they have not notified parents because they are waiting for the investigation to be complete.

St. Louis County Police confirm they are investigating the sexual assault allegations, but parents still have not been notified from the district and are not happy about the district’s approach.

“Why keep it hidden? Why keep it a secret? What are they covering up?” said Pearl Wallace, a student’s grandparent.

The district said there is no cover up.

“We’ve always been very proactive in communicating,” said district spokesman Jack Wang. “So until we get all the facts and the investigation is complete, we didn’t want to give the community anything that could be incorrect.”

Police said the initial part of the investigation was conducted, but the case has been turned over to juvenile court.
