(KMOV.com) – More charges have been filed in the case against a Metro East elementary school teacher.
On April 15, Jason Ehlers, 36, of Bethalto, Ill., was charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child and two counts of criminal sexual assault.
On Friday, an additional charge of aggravated sexual abuse was added to the charges.
At the time of his arrest, Ehlers was a second grade teacher at the Silver Creek Elementary School in Troy, Ill.
Ehlers previously had taught in the Bethalto school district and served as an administrator in the Southwestern Community Unit School District #9.
According to police, Ehlers allegedly had sex with a child under the age of 13 sometime between September 2010 and March 2011. Ehlers is also accused of having sex with a child under the age of 18 sometime between July 2011 and July 2012.
Administrators in Troy say they do not believe the allegations involve any current or former students in that district.
An alert was sent to parents stating Ehlers had been placed on administrative leave pending a criminal investigation.
Officials said once administrators were aware of the allegations, they acted quickly to remove Ehlers from contact with students.
Ehlers is in custody in Bethalto with bond set at $250,000.
