CLAYTON, Mo. (AP) -- A St. Louis-area man who admitted in court that he fatally beat his girlfriend's 2-year-old son last year has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.
23-year-old Donye Calvin was ordered in St. Louis County to serve simultaneous 15-year terms on charges of second-degree murder and abuse of a child resulting in death.
Authorities say Calvin was babysitting D'Mond Staples in March of last year when he beat and punched the boy, apparently for misbehaving. The boy later died at a hospital.
Calvin has been jailed on $500,000 bond.
