BELLEVILLE, Il (KMOV.com) – After residents bombarded police in Belleville with requests to step up their involvement in the community, authorities answered with an “all hands on deck” response.

Friday night, the Belleville police were out in force, making numerous arrests and handing out nearly a hundred citations.

Police made 18 arrests and issued nearly 90 traffic tickets leaving residents hoping this is only the start of more to come.

188 traffic stops were made  resulting in 88 traffic citations. Police issued 113 warning citations and made 11 warrant arrests. Two felony drug arrests and one weapons-related arrest were part of the operation that also included four misdemeanor arrests.

Residents call it a good start.

“Yeah I feel pretty good but there needs to be more of it, more of it, more of it,” said Dwight Goliday.

Belleville police say they’ll conduct operations like this throughout the year to address citizen concerns.
