(KMOV) – An Illinois Boy Scout volunteer has been arrested and charged with sexually abusing a child.

Jon Demers, 53, of Collinsville, has been charged with 12 counts of felony aggravated criminal sexual abuse.

Police began investigating Demers after a juvenile victim reported the abuse.

Police, the abuse began in 2005, when the victim was 10-years-old. According to court documents, the abuse continued for six years. The alleged abuse took place at Demers’ home and other locations in Illinois in Missouri.

After he was arrested, police say Demers admitted to sexually molesting multiple children. So far, Demers has only been charged in connection with one of those victims.

Now, police say two other victims have been located and authorities say more charges are likely in Demers' future.

Demers was an adult volunteer for Troop 520, which operates in the Signal Hill area in Belleville. Demers was also a merit badge counselor. He is also a retired Lt. Colonel, last stationed at Scott Air Force Base. He was most recently employed as a civilian there.

Police say some of the abuse happened in connection with Boy Scout events, but they would not give any additional information.

Collinsville police are now working with the Boy Scouts of America, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Service and the St. Clair County state’s attorney’s office identify any other possible victims.

A local scout official says the organization was made aware of an allegation on Wednesday, and immediately revoked Demers’ membership.

According to that scout official, Demers has undergone a background check.

He is being held in the St. Clair County Jail on $1,000,000 bond.

Police continue their search for more victims in this case.
