Two charged for their role in a deadly south St. Louis robbery

ST. LOUIS (KMOV)— Two people have been charged after one man was killed and two others injured during an attempted robbery in south St. Louis City on January 14.

Steven Nunley, 27, and Wanekii Weems, 32, have been charged with second degree murder, first degree robbery and two counts of armed criminal action for their involvement in the shooting.

Just after 9 p.m., the suspects allegedly entered a home on the 4300 block of Swan Avenue, which is a block south of Manchester Road near Tower Grove Avenue, and announced a robbery. According to reports, the suspects opened fire on three people who were inside the home at the time of the invasion.

Police say the suspects shot and killed 32-year-old Jerald Massey soon after entering the home, the two other victims tried to run away. A 18-year-old male victim was grazed by a bullet; The other victim, a 21-year-old man was hit in the left side after the suspects opened fire on them as they fled.

The third victim kept running but later showed up at an area hospital, he is stable. The other victim was treated and released. Massey was taken to an area hospital where he later died.

Officials say Massey was not a resident of the home.
