ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – A man is in critical, unstable condition after being struck with a closed fist Friday night in north St. Louis.

Officers say they responded to a call for a “person down” in the 4300 block of Warne at 6:55 p.m.  When officers arrived they found a 54-year-old man lying in the street unconscious.

An investigation revealed the victim was talking to a suspect when the suspect hit him in the face with a closed fist, according to police. Police say the victim fell to the ground and hit his head on the pavement after being hit.

Authorities say the suspect fled the scene in a maroon vehicle.

The victim suffered trauma to his face and head. He was taken to an area hospital where he is listed in critical, unstable condition.

Police say they do not know if the suspect and victim knew each other.

The investigation is ongoing.
