Man charged with robbery of elderly man in Collinsville

 (KMOV.com) --  Police in Collinsville have charged a man from Morris, Ill. following the robbery of an elderly man on Friday.

Police charged Dustin J. Brandt, 31, with robbery and offenses relating to motor vehicles after he allegedly robbed an 81-year-old man of his wallet and fled in a stolen vehicle.

In the initial police report, a witness told police he followed the suspect in his vehicle until suspect abandoned his vehicle and fled on foot.

Collinsville police said within minutes, officers arrived in the area where Brandt had last been seen and established a perimeter. Police dispatched a canine and were able to track the suspect, arresting him.

Following Brandt’s arrest, police determined the vehicle he was driving was stolen. According to police, Brandt had active warrants from Wheaton, Ill.

Brandt is being held on $150,000 bond at the Collinsville Police Department.
