EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) – A Wood River, Illinois man has been taken into custody after attempting to steal copper.

Shane Reese, 35, was charged Wednesday with one felony count of criminal damage to property.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Reese was found last Sunday badly burned, bleeding and naked near the Ameren IP substation on Cut Street in Alton, Illinois.

Police say evidence from the scene indicates that he was electrocuted while trying to steal copper wire from the substation.

Reese was taken to the hospital after the incident and arrested three days later at his work. He is being held at the Madison County Jail on $250,000 bond.
