MADISON COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV) – A man recently accused of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl with his wife has been charged with attacking an officer while in jail.
David Armstrong, 33, was charged with felony aggravated battery.
According to deputies, an officer on Monday attempted to transfer Armstrong from one area of the jail to another when he was attacked.
Police said Armstrong scratched and clawed the deputy’s face while trying to move past the officer. The struggle continued and Armstrong attempted to bite the deputy.
Additional officers responded and eventually subdued Armstrong, according to deputies.
Deputies said the officer was not seriously hurt.
Armstrong and his wife have been in custody since last week after they were charged with sexually assaulting a five-year-old girl.
According to court documents, the couple touched the child in her private areas and then forced her to do the same to them.
With the additional charge, Armstrong remains in custody on a $190,000 bond.
