PACIFIC, Mo. (KMOV) – Authorities have charged a man they say robbed a dollar store in Pacific on Tuesday.

James Kirk, 24, was charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action.

According to police, Kirk walked into the Dollar General on Osage around 6:45 a.m., flashed a hunting-style knife to an employee and demanded money.

Police said Kirk cleared out the cash register and ran away from the scene.

Authorities said Pacific Police Chief Matt Mansell was responding to the robbery when he saw a suspicious person. Mansell questioned the man, whose answers allegedly did not add up.

Police said officers called a witness to the scene. That witness then identified Kirk as the suspect.

Kirk was taken into custody, where he remains on a $50,000 bond.
