(KMOV.com) – A Lincoln County man has been charged with child molestation and assault after police said he punched his girlfriend’s daughter.

Authorities said Daniel Kittle was driving his car with the victim inside and pulled over to the side of the road near Highway EE and Mansion Road in Winfield. That's when police said he punched the victim twice.

Police said Kittle told them he was angry with the 3-year-old because he was coming down from a heroin high.

The victim was later transported to St. Joseph West Medical Center in Lake St. Louis where doctors said she had extensive injury to her arms, legs, buttocks, and genitals. The attending physician said she was nearly beaten to death.

Kittle claimed the victim's injuries were caused when she bumped her head while playing on the stairs. The girl was eventually sent to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital in St. Louis where authorities said the doctors who examined her informed them her injuries did not fit Kittle’s version of the story.

Kittle is being held in the Lincoln County Jail on $200,000 bond.
