(KMOV) – Authorities say a man is in custody after he broke a toaster over the head of a woman at a Granite City home earlier this month.

Jan Eads, 41, was charged June 20 with two counts of aggravated domestic battery, two counts of aggravated battery and two counts of aggravated unlawful restraint.

According to court documents, Eads and the victim were at an apartment in the 2200 block of Washington Ave. when he refused to let her leave.

Police said Eads then hit her in the head with a toaster and used a glass ashtray to strike her in the arm.

The victim was transported to the hospital where she was treated for injuries.

Authorities said they found the toaster broken and in several pieces when they checked out the house. Broken glass from the ashtray was also discovered at the scene.

Police said Eads remains in custody on a $100,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for July 12.
