( --  Authorities allege that an acquaintance fatally stabbed a Swansea woman in the face and neck during a confrontation on Friday.

Kristofer McDavid, 32, faces a first-degree murder charge for allegedly stabbing the woman in the face and neck with a sharp object.

Police and emergency crews were called to the 200 block of Marcella Drive, near the intersection of IL-161 and Route 159 around 10:30 a.m. Friday.

Carmen Boyd, 50, was found dead with obvious signs of homicide inside her second-floor apartment. Investigators said the crime was not random, and that McDavid and Boyd were friends.

The Major Case Squad was activated, and more than 20 homicide detectives were involved in the investigation.

McDavid was arrested Saturday and is being held on $5 million bond. The Major Case Squad says warrants are being applied for, and charges will be filed on Monday.

Police Chief Mike Arnold says it was Swansea's first homicide since 2006. About 10,600 people live in the city.

It's unclear whether McDavid has an attorney. He does not have a listed home telephone number.
