(KMOV.com) – Police said a woman who claimed she received mail intended for a business, stole the business information to pay bills.

Brittney Culberson, 26, of north St. Louis County, has been charged with identity theft.

Authorities said she claimed she received mail intended for Burroughs Creek Wireless, a business in Lawrence, Kan., that contained account information.  Police believe she used that account information to make payments for her electric bill, trash service, and other expenses.

Authorities said she was arrested before admitting to the crime. However, police said they are unsure if her claim of accidentally receiving the information in the mail is accurate.
