Local nurse accused of injecting stolen medication on the job

(KMOV) –A nurse was caught stealing prescription pain medication that was meant for patients in a Creve Coeur hospital.

Police say Brandon Owens, 24, was charged with one count of stealing a controlled substance after police say he stole several vials of fentanyl.

He then injected himself with it while he worked as a registered nurse at Kindred Hospital on December 30 and 31.

News 4 spoke to officials at Kindred ant they say Owens worked for an agency and not directly for them. Kindred Hospital is working with police and have notified the state board which can take disciplinary action.

Owens was held on a $15,000 bond.
