ST. CHARLES (KMOV.com) -- A man who admitted to the statutory rape and sodomy of a 15-year-old girl will spend just a few months in jail, according to authorities.
Brent Surdyke, 28, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to accusations of inappropriate sexual conduct with a St. Charles girl.
According to court officials, Surdyke will be on probation for five years, with a seven year suspended sentence. He will also complete 60 days of "shock time" in jail, and must complete sex offender counseling.
St. Charles County prosecuting attorney Tim Lohmar said the nature of the case may have contributed to a lesser sentence.
"In our statutory rape cases, it's not uncommon that there's some kind of relationship between the defendant and the victim," Lohmar said. "Oftentimes it's a family relationship or a family-friend relationship, so those are dynamics that invariably have to factor in."
Authorities say Surdyke was working for the victim's father when the crimes occurred. As part of his plea bargain, Surdyke is not allowed to have any contact with the victim.
