(KMOV.com) - A 50-year old House Springs man was flown to Mercy Hospital St. Louis after being shot through the front door of his home in the 4500 block of Springview Drive.

The shooting happened around 11:30pm after an argument and a fight with a neighbor.

Relatives say Rob Duke was hit by a bullet from a 44-magnum handgun which shattered a bone in his upper arm and caused a heavy loss of blood. His 14-year old step daughter, Kaylee Mcarthur, was standing nearby and saw it happen.

"A gunshot went off and hit him in the arm and there was blood everywhere and he fell down right beside me," McArthur.

Investigators with the Jefferson County Sheriff's office told News 4 that Duke and a neighbor had argued in front of Duke's house and then the men had a physical altercation. Duke's relatives say he hit the neighbor in the head with an ax handle. Sheriff's officials say the neighbor left and then returned and opened fire several times, striking Duke once as he stood inside his home.

The neighbor was treated at the hospital and then booked into the Jefferson County Jail. He's facing charges of first degree assault, armed criminal action and endangering the welfare of a child.
