ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) -- News 4 is following a crime trend happening in St. Louis city. In just the last four days, 12 fires have popped up in abandoned buildings.

The fires have been all in the same neighborhood in north St. Louis.

One of the latest fires was at North Taylor and Martin Luther King Drive Wednesday morning.

It destroyed the vacant building.

Firefighters say they think it was intentionally set, but they can’t know the cause because the building collapsed.

“All vacant buildings,” said St. Louis Fire Department Battalion Chief Russ Richter. “[It] could be because the temperature’s getting colder and people are trying to keep warm.”

The battalion chief says it’s possible a developer may be behind the fires.
