(KMOV) -- An Illinois woman is charged with aggravated battery and unlawful possession of a controlled substance after beating her boyfriend with a baseball bat in Cottage Hills on Saturday.

According to court documents, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic disturbance in the area of 9th Street, near Stanley Road.

After police arrived at the scene, they reportedly found an abandoned vehicle with the back window broken and Kelsey D. Proffer, 23, beating her boyfriend with a baseball bat in a ditch.

It was reported Proffer’s boyfriend was bleeding from the nose and head, but refused medical attention.

Deputies arrested and transported Proffer to the Madison County Jail and also found Proffer to be in possession of Alprazolam, a drug used to treat anxiety caused by depression and panic attacks.

Proffer’s bond was set at $40,000.00.
