(KMOV.com) – Ill. Gov. Pat Quinn said he wants to ban the sale of assault style rifles in Illinois.

Many politicians in Illinois agree with him including East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks, who wants such guns off the street.  Parks said he supports Quinn’s push for an assault weapons ban, a ban on high capacity magazines of ammunition, and required background checks for gun buyers.

Gun range owner Tony Caito, who owns a gun range in Columbia, Ill. Said an assault weapons ban would affect his income. He told News 4 his goal is to protect the rights of law abiding gun owners.

Caito told News 4 he believes the gun lobby will be successful in stopping such a ban from being put in place.
