(KMOV.com) -- Illinois state troopers are helping East St. Louis increase the number of officers on patrol in hopes of decreasing crime.
For years, ISP investigators have routinely helped in homicide investigations. Now, troopers are patrolling the streets of East St. Louis on a full time, round-the-clock basis.
They drive the streets to assist East St. Louis officers, but primarily serve as a crime deterrent.
“The more presence we have, the less crime we have” said ESL Police Chief Michael Floore. “We’re ecstatic about having state with us, working with us. It puts more manpower on the street also.”
The troopers will spend most of their time patrolling the highest crime areas of East St. Louis.
