(KMOV) – Police say a man died after being shot by someone inside a car in south St. Louis Wednesday afternoon.

Witnesses told police a passenger in a black sedan shot a man in his 20s running in the 3500 block of Minnesota just after 12 p.m.

Police say they believe the man ran across Gravois to the 3100 block of S. Compton before collapsing in the front yard of a nearby vacant home.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The shooting happened near Roosevelt High School, but St. Louis Public Schools officials confirmed the victim was not connected to the district.

At least five markers for shelling casings were spotted in an empty parking lot along Gravois between Compton and Michigan.

Additional details surrounding the shooting were not immediately available.
