(AP) -- A 20-year-old man from Hawk Point is charged with assaulting two law enforcement officers during a traffic stop.
Police said the man - Rustam John Fuhrman, of the 100 block of Clarks Pointe Drive - was stopped by a Lincoln County sheriff's deputy about 3 p.m. Sunday on Highway 47 at Front Street because his car was tailgating another vehicle.
According to a court document, Fuhrman during the stop became combative, yelling at the deputy and pushing him in the chest. That caused the deputy to stumble into a traffic lane, where he almost was struck by passing vehicles.
A county corrections officer assigned to ride along with the deputy then came to the deputy's aid. Fuhrman struck both officers before he was handcuffed after a brief struggle, police said.
Fuhrman faces felony counts of assaulting a law enforcement officer and assaulting a correctioons officer.
He was being held in the county jail with bail set at $5,000.
