Granite City fireman's wife charged with burglary at fire department

(KMOV) -- A Granite City woman was charged with burglary after stealing prescription medication out of a vehicle belonging to a member of the Mitchell Fire Department at 213 East Chain of Rock’s Road in Granite City on Wednesday.

It was reported that the wife of a fellow fireman, Sara Y. Copper, 27, had notified the victim of the theft she committed, although did not admit to the crime.

The victim realized that his prescription medication and wallet had been taken and proceeded to notify authorities.While the victim waited for authorities, he reviewed the surveillance system and determined that Copper was responsible for the theft.

Copper was later located at her residence and taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Jail.

She is being held on $75,000 bond.
