(KMOV) – A Moline Acres police officer is recovering after being attacked while trying to stop a group of shoplifters on Monday.

The theft was reported just after 2 p.m. Monday when three men and a woman were caught shoplifting air fresheners and gum from the Shop N Save located on Lewis and Clark in Moline Acres.

According to authorities, a security guard caught the four and asked them to stop on suspicion, causing a fight to ensue.

A Moline Acres police officer who was in the store became involved and was attacked by the group, forcing him to call for additional officers.

All four suspects were arrested and are being held at the Moline Acres police department awaiting charges.

The officer is expected to be alright.
