FOREST PARK, Mo (KMOV.com) – Police say a woman was attacked while jogging just before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman, 27, was jogging on the path that runs along Interstate 64/40. She says a man appeared and attacked her. She was able to fight the attacker off and sustained minor injuries.

A clerk at a nearby Mobile station tells News 4 the woman ran into store for help. He said she frantically told him what happened and they called police.

The clerk said the victim had a cut on the side of her mouth and what looked like a scrape on the back of her neck where she said she was pushed down.

The victim says she was struck with a rock or other hard object. She was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.

Police are continuing to interview the woman. Officers are currently searching for the suspect. Canine units, helicopters and mounted police are all working on the search.

The park director tells News 4 they have 31 park rangers total who patrol the park. Some officers with the St. Louis City Police Department are also assigned to the park.

The director says he’s concerned and has asked the police department for additional resources.

It’s unclear if the victim was sexually assaulted.  News 4 will continue to update this story as more details become available.
