Fairview Heights police arrest East St. Louis man involved in armed robbery

(KMOV) -- A Washington Park man faces a felony charge of armed robbery after being arrested while driving away from the scene Friday in Fairview Heights, according to police.

Charles J. Rice, 24, allegedly robbed a business in the 830 block of Lincoln Highway while armed with a handgun and fled the scene in a Blue Chevrolet Blazer.

The victim contacted police, describing the car the suspect used which allowed police to make the arrest two minutes after the crime.

Police say that when they apprehended Rice they found money and a firearm.

The suspect and a friend, whose involvement is in question by authorities, were transported to the Fairview Heights Police Department.

No one was injured during the incident.
