ST. LOUIS—The Federal Bureau of Investigations announced on Wednesday that a serial bank robber reportedly turned himself in to authorities.

Investigators say Andrew Maberry, 19, was arrested and charged with one count bank robbery for his involvement in the hold up at the Commerce Bank in Arnold on July 2.

The FBI  dubbed Maberry the “I-55 Bandit.” He is suspected of 10 robberies and attempts at two other banks since May, with some of the crimes occurring near Interstate 55.

In each case Maberry is accused of using a note and implied that he was armed, but no one was hurt. The FBI did not disclose the amount of money taken in the crimes.

Maberry of O’Fallon, Ill. surrendered to the St. Louis FBI office less than 24 hours after authorities sought help from the public in identifying the suspect.

“We needed the right people to see his photo.  Because the photo of the I-55 bandit is so clear that any one who knows him would be able to recognize him and identify him,” said FBI St. Louis Division Spokeswoman Rebecca Wu.

Since May 6, 2013, the “I-55 Bandit” is believed to have robbed ten banks and attempted to rob two others in five states: Illinois, Missouri, Maryland, West Virginia, and Tennessee.

The FBI continues to investigate to determine if Maberry is linked to other bank robberies.
