EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – An Alton man accused of sexually assaulting two toddler-aged family members will spend the rest of his life in prison.
Michael Burgund, 30, was sentenced Friday in Madison County. That’s where a jury convicted him in December of six counts of predatory criminal sexual assault.
Burgund was charged in April 2011 after going to Alton police and admitting he sexually assaulted two toddlers beginning in June 2008. The victims at the time were 2 and 3 years old.
He testified during his trial, but then denied the allegations.
Burgund remains jailed in Edwardsville.
“Our victims were brave, little girls who did not deserve this abuse,” said Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons. “I’m glad that the defendant is being removed from society and will never again be able to prey on children.”
