(KMOV) -- Police in De Soto charged a man Wednesday following a case of serious child abuse first reported in early November.

Jeremy Dean Rush Jr., 25, was charged early Wednesday morning with felony abuse or neglect of a child causing serious emotional or physical injury, according to De Soto police.

According to authorities, officers with both the De Soto Police Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department took Rush into custody at a home located in the 4000 block of Walker Hill Road in rural De Soto.

Rush was taken into custody without incident and was later transported to the Jefferson County jail.

Authorities say Rush is a relative of the victim’s mother, whom he was babysitting for at the time of the reported incident.

If convicted, Rush can face up to 15 years in prison.

Bond was set at $25,000.
