ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV) – Police say a woman found dead inside a smoke-filled south St. Louis house was killed after someone stabbed her to death.

According to officials, the fire started at the home of 49-year-old Brinda Babcock in the 4000 block of Giles around 12:30 a.m.

Authorities said her roommate came home and opened the door to a room full of smoke. She then went next door to call for help.

Firefighters arrived to the scene and discover Babock unconscious in the living room. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities then extinguished the fire.

Babcock’s death was classified as a homicide Wednesday afternoon. On Thursday, authorities said she died due to a stabbing.

Meanwhile, arson, bomb and homicide investigators continue to look into the cause of the fire.

Additional information regarding her death was not immediately available.
