CHICAGO (KMOV.com) -- Cook County leaders are considering what they call a violence tax to cut down on crime on Chicago streets.

County officials hope the proposed 50-cent tax on each bullet would curb gun violence.

So far in 2012 Chicago has already had 400 murders, a 25 percent increase from last year.

Next week, the Cook County board president plans to introduce the violence tax as part of her budget.
