(KMOV.com) – The caregiver of a disabled 57-year-old man is accused of kicking him in the stomach at a state-run facility in Bellefontaine Neighbors in October.

Ahmed Koroma, 47, was charged with abuse of a vulnerable person for the alleged incident that occurred at the Bellefontaine Habilitation Center.

Police said Koroma was working alone with the victim when he became frustrated and kicked him. Police say the victim has a developmental disability.

According to police, a witness captured the incident on a cellphone camera.

"You really have to have empathy for these people,” Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Chief Robert Pruett said.  "They're incapacitated. They can't communicate. They can't tell you what's good or bad. What's right or wrong."

News 4 has learned Koroma was employed at the facility until February. The state of Missouri has not said why he was fired.
