(KMOV.com) – A burglary suspect shot himself to death following a standoff with deputies in Jefferson County Monday night.

According to deputies, authorities went to issue a search warrant at a home in the 2100 block of Devonshire Dr.  in Imperial around 8:40 p.m. when a man with a gun barricaded himself inside.

Authorities say they attempted to negotiate with the man for more than an hour before hearing a gunshot from inside the house around 10 p.m.

Deputies forced their way into the home and found the man in the basement with a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The investigation is ongoing.
