FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Authorities say thieves broke into the home of a Metro-East police officer last week, stealing jewelry, equipment and guns, including an AK-47.

Last Thursday, police were called to the home of an officer from another jurisdiction who lives in Fairview Heights, Ill. The officer told Fairview Heights police his home was burglarized, and several items had been removed.

Police on the scene determined that suspects had gained entry through a back bedroom window, then stolen the man's department-issued handgun, personally owned AK-47, jewelry, and two bulletproof vests.

Officials say the officer's name, address and department are being withheld to preserve his anonymity.

According to police, the department is offering $1500 for information leading to an arrest. Those with information are urged to contact CrimeStoppers at 1-866-371-TIPS.
