Son dies of heroin overdose, dad faces charges

(KMOV) – A Bonne Terre man has been charged in the death of his son, 19 year-old James V. Kobermann Jr.

James V. Kobermann Sr., 41, has been charged with second-degree murder and distribution of a controlled substance.

According to a news release, St. Francois County Sheriff’s detectives discovered Kobermann Sr. purchased and gave heroin to his son on July 1, resulting in his overdose. Kobermann Sr. also refused medical care for his son. 

After Kobermann Sr. left for work the following day, others in the home noticed Kobermann Jr. was not breathing and called 911. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. 

Kobermann Sr.’s bond is set at $250,000.
