(KMOV.com) – Police said a teen is a potential danger to the community after he allegedly attempted to hit somebody with a glass bottle and missed. Instead, a four-year-old is left with multiple stitches in her leg.

Bellfontaine Police said Vincent Edwards, Jr., 18, was upset after a group of girls on Ashbrook Drive called him a name. Police said Edwards then picked up a broken glass bottle and threw it.

Edwards allegedly missed and hit a four-year-old girl, cutting her in the leg. The child was taken to Christian Northeast Hospital where she required several stitches.

Edwards was charged with misdemeanor assault for the attack.

“I know he’s got some other history. He’s on parole right now for a felony crime,” said Chief Pruett of the Bellfontaine Police. That felony crime is a second degree robbery, and the state said that he’s “a threat to the community.”

“Kids don’t understand that there are consequences to their actions. They all feel sorry after the fact, but never take a step back and think about it,” added Chief Pruett.
