Alleged robber caught 15 minutes after St. Charles bank heist

ST.CHARLES, Mo (KMOV.com) -- At approximately 10 a.m. Wednesday morning, the St. Charles Police Department received a report of a bank robbery at the Commerce Bank located at 1101 First Capitol Dr. in St. Charles.

The suspect passed a note and implied he had a weapon however no weapon was displayed. The suspect fled the scene with an undetermined amount of money. No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect was described as: black male, long dreadlock hairstyle, approximately six feet tall, 200 lbs.

A witness who was in the area at the time of the robbery reported suspicious activity by the occupant of a two tone blue Chevrolet Astro or GMC Safari van just prior to the call. That information was relayed to other agencies. At 10:17am, St. Ann police made traffic stop on I-70 of a vehicle matching this description.

Investigators responded to the scene of the traffic stop and determined the suspect was the driver. He was subsequently positively identified by bank employees. A quantity of money from the robbery was recovered. The investigation is ongoing.

Authorities say the identity and photographs of the suspect will be released after charges are filed. The suspect remains in custody at the St. Charles Police Department.
