(KMOV.com) - A St. Louis mother is in jail after allegedly leaving her 1-year-old son inside a hot car while she shoplifted from a local Schnucks grocery store.
Aliscia Dean, 20, was charged with endangering the welfare of child after admitting to the crime.
Authorities said Dean was shoplifting with her boyfriend at the Schnucks in the 4100 block of North Grand Blvd. Monday. Police said she left her son inside her car while she was committing the crime.
“She did leave a portion of the windows cracked, but within 15 minutes that child was sweating profusely through his clothes and he had thrown up and was immediately taken to the hospital,” said Anna Kratky, Assistant Circuit Attorney.
A doctor at Cardinal Glennon Hospital determined the child potentially suffered from a heat stroke. Police said the temperature outside the car was over 80 degrees.
Dean has a separate property damage charge pending. Her boyfriend has not been charged in the case.
