LINCOLN COUNTY, Mo. (KMOV) – Three Troy R-3 School District campuses were placed on lockdown Wednesday after a student told police her boyfriend threatened to open fire at one of the schools.

The incident forced police to place Troy Buchanan High School, Troy Middle School and New Horizons High School under a lockdown.

According to authorities, a female student at New Horizons High School said her boyfriend threatened to kill his family, and then bring multiple guns to Troy Buchanan High School and open fire.

The girl told authorities her boyfriend showed her three loaded handguns and assault rifle he planned to use in the shooting. The girl said he named specific students he planned to target in the attack.

After the girl alerted authorities, all three schools were placed on lockdown while officer investigated.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies and Troy City police officers went to New Horizons and Troy Buchanan and determined the suspect was not at either school.

They eventually reached the suspect by phone and told him to turn himself in. He was later taken into custody near the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The lockdown was eventually lifted at the schools. According to the district, buses Wednesday afternoon arrived about 20 minutes later than normal.

Authorities said no charges had been filed in the case. The suspect’s identity was unknown.
