5 people shot, including 1 child, in north St. Louis Sunday afternoon
(KMOV) – Police say five people were shot in the 5200 block of Thekla Sunday afternoon around 1:45 p.m. in north St. Louis.
Before the shooting occurred, authorities were requested to the 5300 block of Ruskin for a fight involving 20-30 men. While en route, officers were notified of shots fired in the area. One person was seen fleeing from the area as police arrived. No guns were found at the scene.
During the incident, police notified a local church that was in session that everyone had to stay inside the building.
"We got the news saying that we couldn't leave," said Reverend James Pattie of Unity Chapel Church. "We needed to stay inside. It was roped off." Rev. Pattie said that the shots couldn't be heard from inside the church.
Authorities say a 15-year-old was shot multiple times in his back. He was transported to a local hospital and was listed as critical, but has since been listed as stable. The other four victims were shot in the side, leg, foot, and hand. They were also transported to local hospitals for treatment and are currently listed in stable condition.
All five victims are expected to survive. The ages of the victims range between 15 and 27.
The investigation is ongoing.
