UNIVERSITY CITY, Mo. (KMOV) -- Police are searching for two armed men they say carjacked a Washington University student in the Delmar Loop early Thursday morning.
Police said a man was parked in the 600 block of Leland around 12:10 a.m. when two men approached him and demanded his car keys.
Authorities said one of the suspects had a knife, while the other possibly had a gun. Police said suspects jumped in the victim’s car and took off, leaving the victim uninjured.
“I will note there were officers on Delmar right in front of the building where a guy was parking his car, but didn’t know that was occurring,” Captain Michael Ransom with the University City Police Department.
Carjacking in the city is a trend that keeps getting worse. Police said criminals are so bold they don’t care who’s around.
“I mean in the Central West End it’s happened, downtown it’s happened. I’ve seen a shooting myself. It’s really scary as a resident to have this happening,” said Greg Coleman.
Police said the victim’s car was a four-door white Toyota Camry with Missouri license plate SC3V5D.
Anyone with information on the crime is asked to call University City Police at 314-725-2211 or Crime Stoppers at 866-371-TIPS.
