ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Illinois (KMOV) – An inmate at the St. Clair County Jail is accused of biting off a man’s ear during an attack with another inmate inside a cell on May 11.
Teryun Jackson, 22, has been charged after he allegedly bit off the victim’s ear and flushed it down a toilet.
Teryun Jackson and another inmate, 23-year-old Marlon Jackson, were both charged with aggravated battery and mob action after the attack on the third inmate.
According to deputies, the attack erupted around 7 p.m. during an argument about gambling debts.
Deputies said while Teryun Jackson was flushing the victim’s ear down the toilet, other inmates tried to break up the fight. According to authorities, officers responded to the scene and prevented even more serious injuries from happening.
The victim was treated for injuries at the jail, then taken to St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville for further treatment. Deputies said he would need surgery to repair his damaged ear.
Bonds for both suspects were set at $100,000, which was added to the bonds already in effect for the charges they were awaiting trial on.
Teryun Jackson is in jail awaiting trial on charges of unlawful aggravated discharge of a firearm and unlawful use of a weapon.
Marlson Jackson was in jail on a first-degree murder charge. He has previously been convicted of unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon and aggravated battery.
