(KMOV.com) - Town and Country Police said they keep getting calls from residents who say they have been scammed by "Basic Blacktop by Dawson," a driveway sealing company.

Owner Todd Dawson is accused of taking money from customers and not finishing the work. The Better Business Bureau gives the business an “F” rating.

According to its brochure, Dawson has 20 years of experience sealing driveways in West County. News 4 found two addresses for the business within half a mile from each other in North County.

Police said most asphalt driveway scams involve scam artists who are not licensed and not from the area.

To avoid becoming a victim of a contractor, the Better Business Bureau suggests you wait until work is completed before you pay. Authorities said it is best to contact police if Dawson solicits your business.
